MA purchased the original building at 1021 11th Street in 1997. DeWitt Family Health Clinic initially opened in January 2000 with Dr. Marilim as a full time Family Practitioner. Dr. Donnelly, a DeWitt native and practicing OB/GYN specialist in Clinton, Iowa, sees OB/GYN patients bi-weekly at this facility. After Dr. Marilim moved his practice to Clinton July 2000, Drs. Fowler and Laureijs – longtime and reputable DeWitt physicians – joined Medical Associates in January 2001. It wasn't long before it was evident to all, based on the volume of patients seen by both physicians, that more space would be needed.

MA acquired the adjacent properties in early 2002. Construction for the new facility began in May 2003. The new addition totals about 7,100 square feet, which includes nine exam rooms, three Physician offices, three nursing stations, one procedure room, an expanded laboratory, reception area as well as medical records, along with a staff conference area. A spacious and tastefully decorated waiting room completes this new facility. As a convenience to our patients Pharmacy services are available through leased space by Scott Drug. A total of 12,306 square feet total these two facilities combined.

The newer portion of the clinic is occupied by Dr. Steven Fowler, Dr. Peter Laureijs, and Jody Livesay, Nurse Practitioner. These providers are available to take care of the entire family's health care needs - from pediatrics to geriatrics. Other services include Routine physicals; Sports physicals; Immunizations; Women's health care such as PAP smears; treatment of sports, auto, work-related injuries and a whole host of infections and chronic diseases. Dr. Donnelly will continue to see his OB/GYN patients every other Wednesday. Dr. Olney also will see surgery patients every other Friday afternoon and also has privileges at the local DeWitt Hospital to then conduct any necessary surgery across the street. In addition to routine laboratory diagnostic testing - Cardiac Ultrasound testing will also be available through Becky Goebel who is a registered Ultrasonographer and Vascular Technologist. MA also has a Diabetic Education program certified by the ADA. Sue Collins, R.N., Certified Diabetic Educator, conducts sessions on the third Monday evenings each month in the DeWitt Clinic from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Medical Associates is proud of its association with the community of DeWitt and expansion of this facility gives us the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the area by providing the services of specialists from Clinton in DeWitt. Plans are also underway to have Drs. Carlson and Kumar provide office hours in this facility. Each of these specialists are variously trained in endoscopic procedures and general surgery with Dr. Kumar having additional training and interest in vascular and thoracic surgery. They intend to obtain privileges at the DeWitt Hospital and perform procedures at DeWitt Hospital thus benefiting the hospital and making it convenient for the residents of the community. These surgeons are not only well trained - they also have between them an average experience of 17 years.


The planning and design of the new DeWitt Family Health Clinic was initiated with the patient in mind. A well-designed canopy to provide convenient patient drop off and pick up is available to every patient as they can now drive through under the canopy to the DeWitt Family Health Clinic's new parking lot. A brand new spacious parking lot with several clearly marked handicapped accessible spaces are conveniently located proximal to the main entrance to the clinic.

New maroon direction signs in the building are also well positioned to direct the patients to the appropriate physician office or services. The clinical laboratory is located close to the area just past the patient registration. Return appointments and scheduling for diagnostic tests can now be done behind a privacy door and does not have to be done in the main waiting area where other patients can hear what is being scheduled. To comply with HIPAA regulations, all areas with patient information can also be locked or secured through a well-designed system of locked doors or pocket doors. Spacious nurse's stations are neatly tucked away in private areas while still close to physician offices for appropriate communication. All nursing stations will be outfitted with computer terminals for easy access to patient demographic information and ease of communication with patients. This state of the art facility was built with the PATIENT in mind.
